Why Mentoring?

What can mentoring do for you?
Read some of the responses from my research in the tech community about the benefits of mentoring:

“..encouragement that I was not alone in the field and having someone outside of my current team with whom to talk about career topics has been great for maintaining a positive mentality in general.”

“Mentoring increases motivation, the mentee and the mentor recognise their abilities and limitations, develop communication and organisational skills.”

“Learning from a more experienced mentor saves a lot of time. And inspiring an interest in somebody else is very rewarding.”

“Having a mentor was valuable. A mentor is someone who’s not just there to give you support, but someone that you can always feel comfortable, just even bouncing ideas off, even if they are negative ones, you don’t want a mentor to always be supportive.”

How I can help

Having been a woman in STEM for over a decade, and a mature international PhD student with a 4-year gap from academia, I have mentored students and early career researchers to deal with various difficulties and barriers during their studies or career journey, such as time management issues, lack of motivation and confidence, problems with supervisors and/or other colleagues, biased and stereotypical behaviours. I have also experience with reverse mentoring.
